Our Mission

The Lola Stein Institute (LSI) is a centre of inventive educational thinking and addresses the challenge to re-frame schooling for the exigencies of our times.

With expertise in integrated Jewish education, the LSI understands teachers as foundational to great learning. The LSI sees the intellectual and spiritual capital of a school emerging from the symbiosis between its teachers and a curriculum that conceives new paradigms; these new frameworks shape learning through the arts, encompass interdisciplinary study and ground the curriculum in Jewish thinking.

The teachings of Rabbi Abraham Joshua Heschel inspire LSI advocacy for an education that intentionally includes Jewish ethics, including sensibility to social justice, ecology and text based learning. LSI pedagogy looks to mastery of interconnected competencies and cultivation of student aptitude through curiosity, self-respect and self-regulation.
